Position Description

The Assistant Program Director for the Equity in Computer Science Education Program (ECSEP) will play a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum and educational program for a computer science and technology-related K-12 teacher endorsement program in the Seattle University (SU) College of Education (COE). This program is designed to prepare K-12 teachers to integrate computer science and technology with critical and social justice teaching and learning that leads to an endorsement in computer science teaching in the state of Washington. In collaboration with experts in the SU College of Science and Engineering, the Assistant Program Director will be responsible for supporting the 1) development, implementation, and continuous program improvement to ensure it aligns with requirements for Washington State K-12 teacher credentialling in computer science education; 2) fostering innovation and integration of diversity, equity and inclusion with computer science and technology in K-12 classrooms and 3) meeting the needs of students enrolled in this K-12 added endorsement program. This role combines K-12 educational leadership and teaching in K-12 computer science and technology with a deep understanding and appreciation for the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in the preparation of educators for K-12 computer science and technology.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development (40%)

  • Support the program director in the design, development, and maintenance of a comprehensive equity-driven computer science and technology education curriculum for K-12 educator preparation.
  • Support the program director in completing the necessary university processes and reports required for the approval of the new K-12 Computer Science Endorsement Program.
  • Support state required processes and reporting for the new K-12 added teaching endorsement in computer science.
  • Support ongoing curriculum review and revision work to ensure curriculum content is current, relevant, and aligned with emerging technologies in K-12 education including AI, equity issues in technology, etc.
  • Support the program director to ensure incorporation of best practices in elementary and secondary pedagogy and instructional design to promote effective learning outcomes for K-12 teachers and aligned with our Jesuit and Ignatian pedagogical traditions focused on developing whole persons who can create a more just and humane world.


Assessment and Evaluation (20%)

  • Support and co-manage assessment methods and evaluation criteria to measure the effectiveness of the K-12 curriculum and educator learning outcomes.
  • Work with the program director to use data-driven insights to make necessary adjustments and improvements to the curriculum and practices within the ECSEP program


Resource Management and Administration (20%)

  • Work with the program director to ensure responsible oversight of budgetary resources allocated to the program and K-12 focused curriculum development including textbooks, software, and instructional materials.
  • Work with the program director to engage and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to secure curriculum enhancement projects and opportunities for educators in the program.
  • Support the program director with all administrative responsibilities for general program oversight.


Professional Development (10%)

  • Support the program director in the development and implementation of sustainable training and professional development opportunities for educators to enhance their K-12 computer science teaching skills and keep them updated on the latest advancements in the field.
  • Work with the program director to develop within the ECSEP cohort a culture of continuous learning and innovation among K-12 educators, including managing opportunities for state clock hours for program participants.


Community Engagement (10%)

  • Work with the program director to foster partnerships that support program recruitment efforts, in addition to working with industry stakeholders, professional organizations, and community groups to enhance the relevance of the K-12 teaching practices and curriculum materials and facilitate internships, mentorships, and job placement opportunities for K-12 educators.



Qualifications

  • A master's or doctoral degree in education, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience (3+ years) in curriculum development and/or educational leadership, preferably in computer science or technology education.
  • Keen interest and knowledge of K-12 computer science education, STEM, and learning technology trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, and industry partners.
  • Experience with K-12 assessment and evaluation of educational program outcomes.
  • Project management skills for overseeing curriculum development and meeting general program.
  • Innovative mindset with a passion for staying current with advancements in equity driven, antiracist education and technology, especially in K-12 education systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team to lead and inspire K-12 educators in a dynamic educational environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse K-12 educators and student populations.
  • Teaching experience in computer science or related fields.
  • Experience in curriculum development for K-12 teacher education.
  • Knowledge of state, regional and national education standards and regulations in K-12 education.

Compensation at a Glance

Salary Range: $42,000 - $51,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
