Assistant Professor in Elementary Education
Job Description Summary:
The LaFetra College of Education (LFCE) at the University of La Verne invites applications for a 10-month, full-time, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor of Teacher Education. Screening of applications begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.
Non tenure track (NTT) faculty are expected to contribute primarily through teaching and administrative work such as supporting regional office adjuncts and supervisors, assisting staff, and advising students. This NTT assistant faculty position will join our undergraduate Elementary Education program.
The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of elementary education (K-8th grade), particularly in physical education and health, with knowledge of the social, emotional curriculum. The position necessitates strengths in multiple teaching and learning modalities, curriculum development, as well as communication and collaboration skills.
Essential skills include strong organizational skills and the ability to make independent decisions as well as collaborate with others in decision making. Experience in teaching in K-8 classrooms, the CA Standards, in particular, PE and Health standards, Social and Emotional Learning curriculum
Minimum Qualifications:
- A master’s in education with an emphasis K-8 education.
- Ability to work with diverse students and colleagues, success in creating inclusive classrooms and environments, and knowledge/experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives/social emotional learning.
- Teaching credentials and minimum 3 years of teaching experience in K-8 classrooms, PE and/or Health classrooms.
- Ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population in face-to-face, online and hybrid formats.
- Understanding of the California Standards
- Understanding of California teacher credential processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate (or ABD) in education.
- Demonstrated evidence of experience in social emotional learning.
- Understanding of positive behavior support and asset-based teaching
- Evidence of successful teaching in higher education
- Demonstrated evidence of working for social justice and equity for learners.
- Knowledge of linguistically and culturally responsive practices grounded in principles of equity.
- Experience teaching higher education courses or working with adult learners.
- Experience supervising and/or mentoring educators in secondary settings, and/or interacting with various educators in programs serving adolescent learners.
- Ability to develop effective partnerships with community stakeholders and colleagues across various disciplines.
- Knowledge of and experience with collaboration using a strengths-based equity-minded approach with colleagues in the workplace and/or in education setting
Specific Duties:
Salary Range
Maximum: $73,000
Minimum: $67,800
