Job Description

TITLE: OJEI Violence Prevention and Bystander Intervention Peer Educator 
DEPARTMENT: Office of Justice, Equity, and Inclusion 
REPORTS TO:  Assistant Director OJEI One Process  
AVAILABLE TO: Dominican University Undergraduate Students
PAY RATE: $15.00/HOUR
AVAILABLE: Spring 2025

GENERAL SUMMARY: As part of the Office of Justice, Equity, and Inclusion's efforts, a Violence Prevention Peer Educator is dedicated to the development and implementation of sexual assault violence prevention education, which includes the design, presentation, and evaluation of campaigns, workshops, and activities for the DU student community. This position qualifies for both internship and NEBO. To apply, please submit a cover letter and resume. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Plan and develop sexual assault prevention and bystander intervention education programs by incorporating various learning techniques and formats (i.e. group discussion, lecture, role play, etc.) 
  • Develop and design promotion of sexual assault prevention education events and programs; distribute throughout the campus community 
  • Present new violence prevention and bystander intervention education programs to campus and student groups in the residence halls and other campus and surrounding community locations 
  • Conduct appropriate research for violence prevention programs utilizing various resources both on and off campus (i.e. library database, internet, community and campus organizations) 
  • Assist in the design and utilization of program evaluation and needs assessment tools, work with various focus groups 
  • Networking with professors, other professionals and other students in creating opportunities conducive for violence prevention education programming
  • Commit to regular schedule which includes a weekly planning meeting.  
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates 

DESIRABLE QUALITIES: 
  • Undergraduate DU student with full or part-time enrollment 
  • Strong interest in sexual assault prevention and bystander intervention topics within a diverse student population 
  • A strong ability to speak empathetically about difficult topics
  • Strong presentation skills, including public speaking
  • Solid relationship skills, including empathy, authenticity, and compassion 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills especially related to managing projects. 
  • Strong collaboration skills AND ability to work independently. 
  • Some flexibility in time availability for outreach events occurring in the evenings and weekends. 
  • Fluency in another language in addition to English is a plus 
  • Creative use of technologies in creating promotional materials (e.g., flyers, social media posts, videos)
