Position Title: The Norman and Ruth Carroll Endowed Chair in Business and Economics
Department: Brennan School of Business
Reports To: Dean, Brennan School of Business
Term of Appointment: One Academic Semester: Fall 2025 (August 15th to December 15th, 2025) or Spring 2026 (January 15th to May 15th, 2026).
Location: On-campus (River Forest, IL) - Expectation of an on-campus residency
 
 
Position Summary: 
Dominican University's Brennan School of Business (BSB) announces a search for an outstanding international faculty and scholar to join the school to serve as The Norman and Ruth Carroll Endowed Chair in Business and Economics for one academic semester. This position was established with a philanthropic investment of $1.5 million, to build the academic profile and research capacity of the Brennan School of Business. It allows the school to recruit annually, for a one or two academic semesters, a recognized faculty member to collaborate with, and mentor, Brennan faculty in areas of scholarship consistent with the strategic priorities of the school. Brennan seeks to host outstanding international researchers from premier academic institutions, partner universities, AACSB accredited institutions, or Academy of International Business (AIB) members.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
The primary purpose of The Norman and Ruth Carroll Endowed Chair in Business and Economics is to bring research expertise and scholarly recognition to the Brennan School of Business. During and beyond the Chair holder's on-campus residency, he/she will be expected to provide contributions from among the following, to be determined at the time of recruitment:
  1. Collaborate on at least one major research project with a Brennan School of Business faculty member.
  2. Share teaching expertise with Brennan's faculty members through the Dialogues on Teaching.
  3. Share research expertise with Brennan's faculty members through the Dialogues on Research.
  4. Prepare and deliver, in collaboration with a Brennan faculty member, a presentation of their joint research efforts at an academic conference.
  5. Participate as a presenter in one of Brennan's outreach efforts to share his/her areas of research expertise with business and community leaders.
  6. Submit for publication an article to a Peer Reviewed Journal (PRJ) with a Brennan faculty member.
  7. When appropriate, the Chair may engage in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level - whether as a guest lecturer or as the teacher-of-record in, for example, an intensive seminar-like course.
Required Qualifications:
  • Successful applicants must have a terminal degree in Business or Economics.
  • Preference in selecting the Chair holder will be given to faculty with teaching and research expertise in Economics. However, applicants with expertise in one of the following academic disciplines will also be considered and are encouraged to apply: Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Business, Management, and Marketing.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
 
Compensation
The Carroll Chair holder will receive a competitive monthly stipend to support travel, accommodation, research, and personal expenses.
