Research Scientist I - Behavioral Ecology


Location: Moscow

Division/College: College of Natural Resources

Employee Category: Exempt

Pay Range: $69,451 annually or higher depending on experience

FTE: 1.0

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Position Summary:
Serves as an independent researcher, or a collaborator on a multi-scholar research initiative. May have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher.
Duties may include:

  • Performing complex scientific analyses
  • Adjusting experimental designs as necessary based on experimental data analysis
  • Directing the development of recommendations for project solutions
  • Performing peer review of scientific projects, studies, or applications and making recommendations
  • Preparing peer reviewed publications or presentations
  • Resolving complex project specific technical and regulatory issues
  • Establishing work priorities and performance standards, hiring, training, evaluating staff, assigning, and reviewing work
  • May be responsible for technical project management to include developing the scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, implementing field projects, and approving scientific documents
  • Other duties as assigned



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in Ecology or Statistics, or a Master's Degree plus an additional two years of relevant research experience (5 years total) may be substituted for a Ph.D.
  • Three years of research experience related to the domain of this position




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong quantitative skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to mentor others on use of quantitative methods
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member and leader within a large lab group
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with agency partners
  • Record of 2 or more lead-author publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Experience with experimental design and complex data analysis
  • Developing quantitative models to describe wildlife population dynamics, and using these models to provide guidance for management and conservation
  • Developing wildlife habitat models over broad spatial scales using land use/land cover data within the U.S.
  • Demonstrated record of publishing first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals related to ecology and statistics
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as a PI and as part of a collaborative group
