Accessibility Specialist

Summary:
Provide support to all aspects and duties associated with student accommodation requests, in close collaboration with the University Student Accessibility Services Committee members, Assessment staff, faculty and students. Assist with exam proctoring logistics and support for students receiving accommodations. Conduct advising meetings and facilitate workshops for students from all colleges regarding skill development in executive functioning, time management, and transition into professional school. Develop and conduct trainings and workshops for administrators, faculty, staff, and students about their responsibilities for advocacy, accommodations and accessibility, in compliance with the ADA, and collaboration with the Title IX staff.

Principal Functional Responsibilities:
Coordinate student accommodation requests: Facilitate meetings with all students who request accommodation; manage all case files and paperwork required for monitoring these services for students in a confidential and yearly manner. Serve as the liaison to Student Accessibility Services Committee (USASC) to schedule all meetings, organize meeting agendas and notes, and collaborate with and educate University personnel to enhance the services and policies associated with assisting these students. Communicate decisions to students, faculty, and respective campus employees to support the accommodation logistics.
Academic Intervention and Advising: Assist with the academic intervention and advising for a case load of professional students, including tracking academic progress, initiating student contact, advising students on how to enhance learning and performance, and supporting students on a leave of absence. Provide advising support to students from all colleges regarding skill development in executive functioning, time management, and transition into professional school. Interpret assessment instruments, including but not limited to the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI), Error Analysis, and student learning resources.
Exam proctoring: Collaborate with the Assessment staff to assist with exam proctoring and testing for students with an accommodation.
Trainings & Workshops: Develop and conduct trainings and workshops for administrators, faculty, staff, and students about their responsibilities for advocacy, accommodations, and accessibility, in compliance with the ADA, and collaboration with the Title IX staff.

Department Administration: Perform data entry and analysis of student requests and approved accommodations to share with relevant campus stakeholders, annual reporting and accreditation data requests. Provide leadership regarding retention and progression initiatives to attain key annual objectives for the department. Assist in preparation of operational reports and analyses to identify progress, adverse trends, and recommendations for strategic and Lean Learning Center approaches. Oversee the development and sustainability of an office assessment plan for accessibility related services.
Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or a relevant field.
  • Two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, educational psychology, higher education, student affairs, special education, basic sciences or related field.
  • Experience with Maxient software for case management.
  • Experience with Canvas, or related Learning Management Software.
  • Experience providing diagnostic/prescriptive advising and learning skills assistance; experience in presenting workshops related to accommodations support; experience supporting students with disabilities and/or providing accessibility services and support.
  • Experience working in post-secondary education setting preferably with medical professionals.
  • Experience advising and supporting neurodivergent student learners.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment. Ability to work flexible hours to support all activities of the office.
