Summary:Through programs, workshops, and one-on-one meetings, responsible for working with students to address challenges and strategize efforts towards improvement. The position requires expertise in relevant learning strategies and theories, as well as experience working with graduate level professional students. Work with faculty/administration to identify underperforming students to develop and implement strategies that lead to academic success; develop academic programs to support the academic needs of all students, provide students with individual assessment and counseling to identify individual learning patterns, and preparation for licensure examinations and Board certification. Assist with the peer tutoring program. Work closely with student affairs and the medical education office in a collaborative effort to improve the student experience.
Principal Functional Responsibilities:Program Development and Planning: Assist in development and planning of Learning Center programs and resources to continue to enhance a proactive approach to academic success of our student populations. Serve as the office’s primary advisor and liaison to an identified cohort or college, respective to the needs of the office and institution. Collaborate with the respective college to serve in an adjunct faculty member role to provide presentations related to learning support education within the curriculum. Develop, implement, and maintain electronic and online Learning Center services needed to enhance student success.
Academic Intervention and Advising: Manage academic intervention and advising for a case load of professional students, including tracking academic progress; initiating student contact; advising students on how to enhance learning and performance both within the curriculum and in preparation for any respective licensure examinations and Board certification, which includes supporting students on a leave of absence. Interpret assessment instruments, including but not limited to the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI), Error Analysis, and student learning resources.
Peer Teaching Programs: Assist with the daily operations of the peer teaching programs for a respective cohort or college, such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, and student learning assistants, which include oversight of hiring, onboarding, budget projections and timecard approvals, scheduling, and student assignment to the program.
Department Administration: Perform data entry and analysis of student data to identify and support at-risk students. Collaborate with campus stakeholders and provide leadership regarding retention and progression initiatives to attain key annual objectives for the department. Assist in preparation of operational reports and analyses to identify progress, adverse trends, and recommendations for strategic and Lean Learning Center approaches. Oversee the development and sustainability of an office assessment plan.
Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, psychology, or a relevant field.
- Two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:- Master’s degree in higher education administration, educational psychology, higher education, student affairs, special education, basic sciences or related field.
- Experience working in post-secondary education setting preferably with medical professionals and implementing academic support services for diverse learners and for standardized examinations (e.g. NBME subject examinations, USMLE Step 1, Step 2 CK).
- Experience with Canvas, or related Learning Management Software.
Physical Requirements:Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment. Ability to work flexible hours to support all activities of the office.
