Associate Director, Learning Center

Summary:
Assist with the biomedical and/or clinical science content development for academic intervention including, but not limited to: tutoring content, pre-matriculation modules, and Learning Center workshops; collaborate with faculty, and faculty development staff, to bridge the learning gap through supplemental instruction and innovative learning methods; work with the Director of the Learning Center to advise students and develop effective learning strategies and improve student retention and success. Develop and maintain a comprehensive assessment plan for the Learning Center to align resources and meet the expectations of the student population. Collaborate with campus stakeholders and provide leadership regarding retention and progression initiatives.

Principal Functional Responsibilities:
Program Development and Planning: Assist in development and planning of Learning Center programs and resources to continue to enhance a proactive approach to academic success of our student populations, with an assigned cohort of students. Serve as the office’s primary advisor and liaison to an identified cohort or college, respective to the needs of the office and institution. Collaborate with the respective college to serve in an adjunct faculty member role to provide presentations related to learning support education within the curriculum. Develop, implement, and maintain electronic and online Learning Center services needed to enhance student success.

Academic Intervention and Advising: Manage academic intervention and advising for a case load of professional students, including tracking academic progress; initiating student contact; advising students on how to enhance learning and performance, and supporting students on a leave of absence. Interpret assessment instruments, including but not limited to the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI), Error Analysis, and student learning resources.

Peer Teaching Programs: Coordinate the daily operations of the peer teaching programs, such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, and student learning assistants, which include oversight of hiring, onboarding, budget projections and timecard approvals, scheduling, and student assignment to the program.

Accessibility Services Oversight: Oversee and assist with the operations, including the supervision of staff, pertaining to the office’s Student Accessibility Services support and the University Student Accessibility Services Committee (USASC).

Department Administration: Perform data entry and analysis of student data to identify and support at-risk students. Collaborate with campus stakeholders and provide leadership regarding retention and progression initiatives to attain key annual objectives for the department. Assist in preparation of operational reports and analyses to identify progress, adverse trends, and recommendations for strategic and Lean Learning Center approaches. Oversee the development and sustainability of an office assessment plan.

Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, educational psychology, higher education, student affairs, special education, basic sciences or related field.
  • Three (3) years’ experience with learning skill development, diagnostic and prescriptive advising

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in post-secondary education setting preferably with medical professionals.
  • Experience with Maxient software for case management.
  • Experience with Canvas, or related Learning Management Software.
  • Experience providing diagnostic/prescriptive advising and learning skills assistance; experience in presenting workshops related to accommodations support; experience supporting students with disabilities and/or providing accessibility services and support.
  • Experience advising and supporting neurodivergent student learners.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to utilize a phone, computer and other office equipment. Ability to work flexible hours to support all activities of the office.
