UHSP is a student-centered university with an exciting and rigorous course curriculum. In this role, you will oversee operations of the Learning Engagement Center, providing writing support and general tutoring supervision support for all students, as well as facilitate related services to the campus community. In addition, you will work in partnership with the Director of Academic Support to develop the Learning Engagement Center as an innovative, supportive, and enriching environment for all students.
You will have the opportunity to: - Provide leadership and oversight of the Learning Engagement Center daily operations, supervision and leadership development for student peer tutors, peer mentors and center student workers.
- Provide academic mentoring and retention support; including design, implement, and evaluate academic success strategies, programs, workshops, presentations, and other innovative activities that provide academic support for students.
- Hire, co-facilitate training, supervise, and support peer tutors.
- Provide assessment, collection, and data analysis for the UHSP Learning Engagement Center.
- Provide writing support as needed.
- Update and manage the Learning Engagement Center internal website page.
- Partner with access services, academic advising, new student orientation and other areas of Campus Life to create and administer in-person and online presentations aimed toward educating the campus community regarding writing and other tutoring resources available.
- Support students identified via the Early Alert process, providing academic coaching to assist students with academic adjustments, assimilation, and general success.
- Stay current of student success educational trends, studies, and best practices by engaging in professional development opportunities.
- Develop an ongoing relationship with UHSP students, faculty, and staff.
- Support other functions and growth of the UHSP Learning Engagement Center as needed.
QualificationsTo succeed in this role, you will need: - Bachelor's degree required in higher education or related area; Master's degree preferred.
- At least two years of experience as a teacher, counselor, administrator, or related role.
- Possession of strong cultural competency and experience working with diverse populations.
- Excellent time management and organization skills.
- Excellent oral, written, and other communication skills
- Ability to perform job responsibilities while managing and responding to interruptions.
- Ability to work independently, following through on projects and assignments with minimal direction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Ability to quickly build rapport.
- Empathy, flexibility; and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Team orientated personality.
