Position Summary:
The Physics Department at Central Michigan University (CMU) is seeking outstanding candidates for a postdoctoral position in computational chemical physics. The successful candidate will work with Professor Koblar A. Jackson on a project involving the deployment of the FLOSIC code, software that implements the Fermi-Löwdin orbital self-interaction correction, to a cloud computing environment. A second thrust is to develop cloud-based educational modules for applied quantum mechanics courses. The work will involve collaborating with researchers at the University of Texas at El Paso and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

The initial appointment will begin as early as mid-December 2024 and run until August 31, 2025. An extension is possible, depending on satisfactory performance and continued funding. A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related discipline, received no later than 6 years before the initial appointment.
  • Experience running electronic structure calculations.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience in FORTRAN code development.
  • Working in a cloud computing environment.

The CMU Physics Department offers B.S., B.S. in Ed., M.S., and
Ph.D. degrees in physics and participates in the interdisciplinary
Ph.D. in the Science of Advanced Materials. The Department
houses active research programs in several areas, including
computational condensed matter and chemical physics and
experimental condensed matter and materials physics.
