Wesleyan University’s Hazel Quantitative Analysis Center invites applications for a full-time, open rank Professor of the Practice in Quantitative Analysis position beginning July 1, 2025.
 
The initial appointment is for three years with the possibility of renewal and promotion. The professor of the practice is a 12-month position responsible for the development and teaching of data analysis/data science courses to students from different majors with a 3-2 teaching load.
 
The person in this position will also have consulting responsibilities with faculty and students for data analysis projects and applications, and will engage in diverse collaborations with academic departments, programs and individual faculty across the university to promote data analysis work. In addition to on-on-one consultations, consulting duties may include group workshops and tutorials on data analysis methods and contributions to the development of grant proposals. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college with a strong and diverse undergraduate student body that highly values both scholarship and teaching.
 

Preferred and Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. in a computational and applied data science field, including computational social sciences, is required. A candidate may be hired as an instructor if they don’t have a Ph.D. at the time of appointment but will complete the Ph.D. within one year of hiring.  A successful candidate is expected to be familiar with modern statistical and high-performance computing tools and methods, with either some teaching and/or industry experience using such tools.
