Job Summary
The Reference and Instruction Librarian has principal responsibilities in providing research assistance and instruction especially focusing on information literacy development, reinforcement, and assessment initiatives using a variety of formats in both face-to-face and online environments. This position also serves as a library liaison to one or more discipline areas. The Reference and Instruction Librarian reports to the Head of Research Services.
Responsibilities
Function 1 -
Provide and assess research assistance to library users utilizing a variety of formats
Function 2 -
Provide and assess library instruction sessions for the development and reinforcement of information literacy skills
Function 3 -
Investigate, implement, and assess emerging and current instructional practices, methodologies, and technologies in a variety of formats, contributing to the development of effective course-integrated and stand-alone information literacy instruction
Function 4 -
Partner with faculty to integrate information literacy competencies into course curricula including the creation of research guides
Function 5 -
Serve as a library liaison to one or more discipline areas
Function 6 -
Participate in library and college committees and events
Function 7 -
Teach credit-bearing information literacy courses
Function 8 -
Contribute to collection development by suggesting new resources and identifying material for weeding
Function 9 -
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Graduate Degree from an ALA accredited or BOR-approved master's degree in library or information science
2 years of library experience
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of experience in academic libraries
Experience with course management and related software

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated knowledge of basic reference resources and library procedures
Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy instruction theory, practice, and management
SKILLS
Demonstrated evidence of information literacy instruction or other teaching experience
Demonstrated evidence of experience in instructional design and technology
Demonstrated evidence of strong public service orientation with commitment to the library's research and instructional role
Demonstrated evidence of excellent organizational skills
Demonstrated evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated experience in developing curricula, student learning outcomes, and assessment
Demonstrated evidence of contribution to professional scholarship
