Assistant Professor of Practice in Tuba
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:
The Conservatory of Music at the University of the Pacific announces a part-time, non-tenure-track appointment for an Assistant Professor of Practice in Tuba with the option to lead varied small ensembles and teach in related areas. We seek a dynamic and innovative teacher/performer whose background, professional performing accomplishments, and pedagogy will attract and retain students to the wide variety of program offerings at Pacific's Conservatory. Excellent applied lesson teaching is the primary responsibility. Pacific invites candidates interested in growing tuba enrollments sufficient to sustain a studio of 4-8 tuba and/or euphonium students. Non-tenure-track faculty members collaborate to fulfill the University's mission to provide a superior, student-centered learning experience integrating liberal arts and professional education and prepare individuals for lasting achievement and responsible leadership in their careers and communities.
Part-time faculty are appointed as needed by each unit and considered as less than full-time annual appointment as specified by each unit. Part-time is determined by the unit based on a comparison to year-long appointments. Time of service on a part-time appointment may not accrue to time for appointment with tenure.
University of the Pacific recognizes that diversity, equity, and inclusion is foundational to the success of our valued students and employees. Our Workplaces
Pacific has three unique campuses across northern California. The largest campus is found in Stockton in the heart of the Central Valley. The 175-acre campus is regularly ranked as one of the most beautiful college campuses in America. As the only college on the West Coast that uses collegiate gothic architecture, the Pacific campus conjures up images of the brick-and-ivy campuses seen at traditional East Coast colleges, and the soothing tones of the carillon bells help create a truly special work environment. The campus also is home to the Faye Spanos Concert Hall, where employees can enjoy the work of students from the Conservatory of Music and guest artists. Employees also can enjoy watching Division I athletic competitions. Pacific is a member of the West Coast Conference and has 17 D-I sports.
The university also has campuses in Sacramento and San Francisco. The Sacramento campus is located in the Oak Park neighborhood, just a few blocks from new stores, restaurants, cafes and apartments created by former Mayor Kevin Johnson. In San Francisco, Pacific is housed in a state-of-the-art building in the heart of downtown on Fifth Street, walking distance from world-class shopping, dining and cultural venues.
