Mechanical Engineering is one of six departments in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering (KGCOE). Other programs include Electrical, Computer, Biomedical, Chemical and Industrial Engineering. The college houses five PhD programs: Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering and Microsystems Engineering. There are over 100 faculty in the college with research areas including 3D printing, robotics, manufacturing, materials, nano-bio sensors, machine learning, tissue engineering and aerosol and particle physics. The Kate Gleason College of Engineering is the nation’s premier career-oriented college of engineering, with one of the oldest and largest mandatory coop programs in the world, with over 3,000 undergraduate and over 600 graduate students.
The Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department is the largest academic department in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, with over 1000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. ME offers the Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering with undergraduate options in Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Energy and the Environment, and Bioengineering. At the graduate level, ME offers a PhD degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering with multiple focus areas, a Master of Engineering, and an Advanced Certificate in Vibrations Engineering.
Research faculty are supported by many core facilities across campus including a fully staffed mechanical engineering machine shop providing machining, fabrication, design, and manufacturing services, the AMPrint Center for Additive Manufacturing and Multifunctional Printing, a NY State Center for Advanced Technology, and the Semiconductor and Microfabrications Laboratory and cleanroom facilities.
Detailed Job Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) invites applications from highly motivated individuals looking to join a diverse, vibrant community of teacher-scholars as tenure-track faculty. Duties include building an externally-funded research program, advising PhD and Master's students, teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses, developing technical and graduate electives, and performing other professional duties. We encourage strong candidates with research in one or more of the following areas: robotics, IoT, automation, Industry 4.0, power transmission, 3-D printing (metal, carbon fiber, electronics), materials science, biomimetics, CFD, artificial intelligence, modeling interfacial phenomena in thermal, biomedical and microfluidics applications, experimental techniques, and multi-physics modeling.
