POSITION TITLE: Basic Nursing Assistant Training (BNAT) Instructor
DEPARTMENT: Basic Nursing Assistant Training (BNAT) Program
FLSA STATUS: Exempt (salaried)
REPORTS TO: Clinical Placement and Program Coordinator (BNATP)
POSITION TYPE: Part-time Instructor
LOCATION: Dominican University Chicago Campus (Onsite)  
 
POSITION SUMMARY:
The University is seeking a part-time instructor for our Basic Nursing Assistant (BNAT) program at the Chicago Campus. The instructor will work closely with the Executive Director of Academic Affairs at the Chicago Campus and will be responsible for teaching in-person classes.
 
The BNAT Instructor will handle course planning and instruction, teaching students essential patient care and basic nursing skills required to provide both physical care and emotional support to patients. This role also prepares students for employment as nurse assistants and equips them to take the state certification exam.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:  
  • Provides instruction through classroom theory/lecture, laboratory demonstration, and skills practices, and supervises clinical sessions at a designated health care facility such as a nursing home or long-term care facility.
  • Provides students with course syllabus including course outline, grading standards, attendance policies, and classroom behavioral expectations.
  • Prepares lessons to teach and facilitate student learning to develop basic nursing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills using appropriate methods of instruction.
  • Maintains student attendance and grading records in compliance with policy and guidelines.
  • Constructs exams and assignments to evaluate student learning. Evaluates student progress and provides students with timely feedback.
  • Responsible for student evaluation and timely and accurate submission of grades and paperwork related to instruction
  • Maintains a purposeful, orderly, safe, and healthy classroom environment.
  • Consults with program coordinator and collaborates with Ex. Dir. of Academic Affairs to deal with and resolve challenges.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a current and valid Registered Professional Nursing Illinois license.
  • Two years of experience as a registered nurse (RN). Must have experience as an RN in at least one of the following areas: 1. teaching theory in an accredited nurse training program; or 2. providing direct nursing care in a clinical setting, including personal care and activities of daily living, to older adults or chronically ill adults.
  • IDPH approved Illinois Evaluator Certification and ability to complete a Department-sponsored Approved Evaluator Workshop refresher course every five years
  • Approved training for instruction in Alzheimer's Disease and dementia equivalent to 4 CEUs
  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of BNA Instructor Train-the-Trainer course.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS healthcare provider CPR certification.
  • Experience teaching a nursing lab/clinical
