Job Description

The tenured Associate Professor position in the College of Juvenile Studies will begin Fall 2025. The College of Juvenile Justice anticipates starting a Master's of Public Policy program. This position will teach mostly undergraduate level courses though at times may teach a graduate course, will engage in research and publication of research findings, and participate in service commitments.

Responsibilities:
  • Record of excellent teaching, planning, preparation and teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Active record of scholarship in areas related to public policy, justice policy, social policy. Original contributions to the advancement of knowledge through scholarly publications and presentations. Record of seeking and/or obtaining external funding.
  • Mentor doctoral students; participate in institutional service roles including department/college/university committees; professional involvement. Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate course offerings, contribute to program development and improvement.


Required Education & Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Public Policy, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related discipline.
  • Six years of undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Candidates with only a J.D. degree will not be considered.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Have a record of excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Have an established scholarly record appropriate for a tenured associate professor at a Carnegie R2 (high research) university.
  • Have an active record of scholarship in areas related to public policy.
  • Make original contributions to the advancement of knowledge through scholarly publications and presentations.
  • Have a record of seeking and/or obtaining external funding.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have a substantive strength in public policy, justice policy, social policy.
  • Plan, prepare, and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities to stay current in the field, improve teaching skills, and explore new instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate course offerings and contribute to program development and improvement.
  • Mentor doctoral students.
  • Participate in institutional service roles including department/college/university committees.
