Senior Associate Director for Career Services: Pacific Global

Primary Purpose:
Reporting to the Director for Career Services, the Senior Associate Director for Career Services: Pacific Global provides exceptional career-related advising, programming and event support for Pacific's growing cadre of international students and alumni. The Senior Associate Director will serve as the primary liaison between the Career Services office and Pacific Global in an effort to enhance the international student experience and post-graduate outcomes.

As further detailed below, their portfolio will encompass both career advising and developing employer relations to better serve Pacific's international student cohort.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for career services for all undergraduate and graduate international students on Pacific's three campuses (Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco).
  • Provides international students and alumni with guidance on career exploration and planning, major choice and change, internship search, resume and cover letter preparation, graduate school planning, job search and interview skill development, career changes and other career related needs.
  • Assist students in understanding and navigating the U.S job market, as well as international job markets relevant to their career goals.
  • Guides students on visa regulations, work authorization and other legal considerations related to employment in the U.S and abroad.
  • Works with fellow Career Services team members to coordinate international student participation and inclusion in career related programs, events and activities (e.g. career fairs, job shadowing programs, mock interview week, “career trek” off-campus site visits, etc.).
  • Collaborates as needed with Shorelight, Pacific's external partner, and the Office of Enrollment to support their efforts to recruit international students.
  • Advocates for the needs of international students within the university and with external partners.
  • Stays current on trends and issues affecting international students in the job market and shares insights with colleagues and students.
  • Forges robust partnerships with diverse campus departments and student organizations.
  • Acts as a “super user” for Handshake and helps to maintain the system. Provides support to employers on and off campus who have questions or need assistance navigating Handshake.
  • Establishes new relationships with corporations and other organizations that provide full-time employment, internship and job shadowing opportunities for international students and alumni.
  • Engages employers in diverse fields through in-person site visits and virtual avenues with the goal of developing quality experiences for Pacific students, graduates and alumni.
  • Serves as an instructor for the “Career Search Essentials” course, as needed.
  • Develops tailored communications and other written materials customized for international students. This may include writing and maintaining specific sections of the Career Services website, developing content for social media outlets and contributing to unit publications as needed.
  • Promotes and participates in all Career Services programming, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree (or bachelor's degree and enrolled in a master's degree program with a successful completion date within one year from employment).
  • Three (3) years of experience in industry, career services, international business or in a directly related service environment.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with international students or clients and an understanding of their unique needs and challenges.
  • Strong career counseling skills, including use of assessment instruments.
  • Working knowledge of visa regulations, work authorization processes and employment practices in the U.S. and internationally, specifically F-1, H1-B, TN, CPT/OPT/STEM extension, etc.
  • Ability to administer and interpret career assessments, to develop and deliver career-related courses and programs and to present to diverse audiences on career-related topics.
  • Knowledge of laws and ethics related to providing career counseling services.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.
  • Demonstrated willingness to collaborate with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Event and program coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to experiential learning.
  • Ability to establish professional relationships with employers, students, alumni and members of the academic community.
  • Ability to translate perspectives and advocate for various constituents.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.



Physical Requirements:

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to outside environment for special events.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Work performed during standard business hours. May be required to work additional hours outside standard business hours and weekends to meet business needs. May require occasional evening or weekend hours to support department, division or University events. Some travel required including attending related conferences, travel to other campuses, and in developing partnerships with employers.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserve the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.

Hiring Range: $75,000 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
