Job Position Description

The Department of Educational Studies [www.edst.purdue.edu] at Purdue University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor position in Educational Psychology to begin in August 2025. The ideal candidate will have pedagogical and scholarly interests in the area of cognition, motivation, learning and/or development in classroom learning environments and the application of research methods in these areas. We are seeking a faculty member with expertise in the following areas:

  • Engaging in exemplary teaching practices and instructional programs as they relate to educational psychology and the application of educational research methods.
  • Developing and enacting innovative programs of Scholarship of Teaching and/or Scholarship of Engagement relevant to motivation, cognition, learning and/or development as grounding for instruction and clinical practice.

 Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Teach courses in educational research methods and educational psychology, as aligned with the Educational Psychology Program area’s needs (3-3 load) – to undergraduate and graduate-level students in programs across the College of Education, in face-to-face and online settings.
  • Engage in Scholarship of Teaching and/or Scholarship of Engagement and grow their educational psychology-relevant clinical practice by pursuing scholarly collaborations, as commensurate with the guidelines for clinical faculty.
  • Mentor master’s and/or doctoral graduate students, such as by supporting their development as researchers and serving on dissertation committees.
  • Collaborate with educational psychology and educational studies faculty to enhance strategic efforts in learning, discovery, and engagement.
  • Contribute to and engage in service to the program, department, college, and profession.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Hold a Ph.D. in educational psychology or a closely related field (e.g., Learning Sciences, Applied Developmental Psychology).
  • Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but they must have their doctoral degree conferred prior to starting in August 2025.
  • Familiarity and experience employing a variety of research methods in educational contexts, inclusive of quantitative, qualitative and/or mixed methods.
  • Record of research productivity as indicated by peer-reviewed and practitioner-oriented publications, and participation in funded research projects.
  • A record of teaching inclusive of instructional innovation, as well as evidence of effective teaching practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching both face-to-face and in online learning environments is highly valued.
  • A record of engagement and/or leadership in professional organizations.
  • Experience with service on university and/or department/college committees.

The Department and College

The Faculty of Educational Psychology and Research Methodology program area are committed to preparing scholars to be leaders in research that addresses significant educational and psychological problems. Our internationally recognized faculty members offer students strong, individualized mentoring and opportunities to develop their skills to design and conduct research. The Educational Psychology program offers a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Educational Psychology and Research Methodology, and a Master of Science with a concentration in Educational Psychology and Research Methodology. Both are residential programs.
