Researching Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Stroke, Hypertension, Diabetes... With the increasing frequency of obesity and diabetes, especially in Georgia, cardiovascular disease is reaching epidemic proportions. The Vascular Biology Center at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University knows the demand is high for new and better treatments. Job Summary

The major focus of research related to this position is identifying mechanisms of inflammation in retina- and choroid-related vasculopathies. The primary roles will be to manage animal colony for in vivo experiments, expose pups and adult mice to oxygen-induced and laser-induced retinal injury, harvest and analyze tissue samples, and assist with interpretation of study results. The position will also assist with general laboratory management including vivarium care and gene identification and ordering supplies as needed.

Responsibilities

The duties include, but are not limited to:

• Cell culture and mouse tissue collection.

   

• Molecular biology assays of cultured cells and tissue: Western blot and qRT-PCR.

   

• Tissue sectioning and histology.

   

• Data analysis and record keeping.

   

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' research and/or clinical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cell culture, mouse tissue collection, and molecular cell biology techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. A keen attention to detail and strong work ethic.

ABILITIES

Ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be highly motivated and have a desire to learn.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Band: B8

Salary Minimum: $45,400 annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
