Job Description Summary
This position will participate in all phases of clinical research, including protocol development, assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and filings, recruitment and enrollment of research participants, study visits, biospecimen collection and processing, data collection and transfer, and regulatory compliance in one or more studies within the Penn Department of Medicine, Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Division. This position will work closely with the Principal Investigator and study team, as well as assist or play a primary role in preparation of manuscripts and research related presentations. Responsible for study coordination for investigator-initiated studies, multi-center research studies, and other patient-oriented research projects.

Job Description

Participate in and coordinate patient-oriented clinical and translational studies within the University of Pennsylvania Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine in the area of cystic fibrosis. The person will support a diverse group of investigators, involving work on investigator-initiated and non-profit sponsored studies of varying complexities. Involvement in trials will range from consulting to serving as the primary coordinator for a study handling all coordinator activities such as the following duties:

  • Screen, recruit, and consent patients using Good Clinical Practice guidelines and according to protocol.
  • Conduct study related visits, including scheduling patient visits and necessary testing, blood draws (training will be offered), medical history, vital signs, collection and processing of biological specimens, shipment of study specimens, and manage study data and regulatory files per Good Clinical Practice.
  • Collect, review and report study data. Complete case report forms, conduct data transfer, and resolve data queries
  • Prepare and submit all necessary regulatory packages, with oversight from the principal investigator, for regulatory submissions. Correspond with the Institutional Review Board and other regulatory agencies, including preparation and submission of protocols, protocol amendments, serious adverse events reports.
  • Communicate with study team members. Manage/coordinate/organize the daily work of research assistant for tasks, such as recruitment, study activities, data transfer, and train them on these tasks.
  • With supervision, assist in development of research protocols and study documents. Help with study start up activities.
  • General organization, maintenance, ordering and stocking supplies, maintaining equipment required to conduct study.
  • Participate in study team meetings, and ongoing protocol training. Attend investigator meetings and communicate meeting information to the study team.
  • Show vigilance in patient safety, protocol compliance and data qualify. Adhere to all University of Pennsylvania, FDA and GCP guidelines.



Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Effective problem solving abilities; effective communication and writing skills; strong organizational and time management skills; flexible and able to multi-task; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently; knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations.

This position is contingent on continued funding.
