Associate Director for Employer Relations and Marketing

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling or higher education related field
  • Demonstrated experience in career services and/or employer relations/relationship management, recruitment, talent development, human resources or a related field (Typically, 3+ years)
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and a proven ability to establish rapport with students, faculty, alumni, employers and staff colleagues


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities required in order to be successful in the role:

  • Extremely well organized with excellent follow-through ability
  • Effectively manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • Experience in event planning, communications, relationship management, and employer recruitment
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and to interface effectively with employers, students, alumni, faculty and university administrators
  • Ability to embrace and drive change and to organize and manage multiple priorities, programs, and projects, both independently and in a team
  • Proficient in the use of web-based software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel required
  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication, program planning, presentation, and computer skills
  • Management experience in leading a team, supervising staff, and professional development
  • Experience with career services management platforms and tools, e.g., Handshake
  • Ability to establish rapport and relate well to students, faculty, employers, and staff
  • Ability to work as a dynamic team member and with a broad population of constituents
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with academic units

  • Demonstrated public relations/communication development abilities
  • Strong computer skills including managing databases and familiarity with career development platforms and software packages
  • Proven track record of employer development, and recruitment practices
  • Significant experience with project and event management. (Typically, 3+ years)



Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Career Development Center serves all students and alumni pursuing various future professional endeavors. Services include helping students solidify their goals and interests, developing a foundation of career readiness skills, preparing for job or internship interviews, and ensuring valuable connections are made that will help them launch their careers.

The primary focus of the Associate Director for Employer Relations and Marketing is recruitment and relationship building with current and future employers who will recruit students for career opportunities. This role will promote innovative programming, and invest resources in the expansion of professional development opportunities made available to Appalachian students. They will provide strategic alignment internally with faculty and other stakeholders to engage employers on campus.

Essential duties and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Serves as the leader of the Career Development Center Employer Relations Team, advancing its mission by developing and executing employer outreach, recruitment, and relationship management strategies that produce high quality internship and job opportunities for App State students.
  • Oversees the planning and execution of all CDC anchor events, including career fairs, career conferences, and other engagements with a focus on high quality engagement between employers and students for the purpose of networking, exercising career readiness competencies, and connecting to jobs and internships.
  • Oversees and participate in site visits including campus, local, and regional employers to maintain/develop new relations, promote Career Development Center programs and services with emphasis on internships, job development, on-campus recruiting, and utilizing Handshake.
  • Uses expert understanding of the AppState campus community to develop and implement customized and efficient strategies to meet employers' hiring needs by creating an employer development strategy that outlines specific and measurable goals for each member of the team.
  • Creates and maintains an effective communication strategy for the CDC that ensures visibility and promotion of services, events, and opportunities to connect for all stakeholders. Consistently monitors and analyzes success of efforts and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Serves as a consultant to employers to expand their talent pipelines and provide employers with engagement opportunities that foster mentoring and networking with students.
  • Proactively initiates classroom-based workshops and partners with faculty and industry to provide students with career readiness skills and connections.
  • Researches and stays informed on employment and recruiting-related trends that support App State University's wide variety of majors and programs.
  • Develops reports and surveys to analyze the metrics of the recruiting operation, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Supervises staff associated with the Employer Relations team.



Work Schedule/Hours:Monday-Friday, 8 to 5 with some evening, travel is required
Suggested Salary Range: $70,000 - $72,000
