Position Summary:
The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences is seeking a tenure track assistant professor to serve as an extension specialist in the department of Entomology, Plant Pathology & Nematology. The Specialist will provide leadership and have overall responsibility for a statewide multifaceted Extension Pesticide Safety and Pest Management program consistent with performance expectations of area educators and in alignment with UI Extension and UI Strategic Plans. The Specialist will provide leadership and have overall responsibility for the statewide multifaceted IR-4 Specialty Crop program for Idaho. The Specialist will work collaboratively with the statewide Integrated Pest Management program and will facilitate the transfer of technology, research, and knowledge from the university to residents throughout the state of Idaho. Professional service is expected, including but not limited to professional associations, reviews of Extension publications, journal manuscripts, grant proposals, and external promotion packets. This position will be 25% Scholarship & Creative Activity, 70% Outreach and Extension, and 5% University Service and Leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned Ph.D. degree in an appropriate pesticide-focused discipline (agriculture/horticulture) such as Toxicology, Chemistry, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Nematology, Weed Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, or Agronomy.
  • Experience working collaboratively with colleagues and clientele.
  • Experience providing clientele with information in a variety of Extension venues, including grower meetings.
  • Experience producing technical and scholarly documents.
  • Experience interacting with the public in Outreach/Extension programs.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Idaho Statewide (SW) Pesticide Applicator Consultant's License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment date).
  • Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment date).
  • Knowledge of pesticide laws and certification procedures on a national, regional, and state level.
  • Experience with conducting pesticide field trials independently.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish, both verbally and in writing.
