Job Summary:
The College of Health Science and Public Health invites applications for
a full-time Assistant to Associate Professor (dependent on experience and current rank at another institution), 9-month, tenure track position
in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders to begin August 16, 2025.
EWU is a regional, comprehensive university where all faculty are expected to demonstrate teaching excellence, professional growth, and service to the university, profession, and the community. Responsibilities in this position include teaching, ongoing research, and service to the university, college, and department are required for tenure-track appointments.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has programs that are housed in the
SIERR Building located in the University District in downtown Spokane, WA. The department offers the BA and MA in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
The college and department prepare students from all populations and communities to help meet the growing market demand in the critical fields of health care and education. The college is home to several nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with an increased focus on inter-professional education (
IPE), and on increasing the diversity of the healthcare fields. As a premier college serving the educational needs of the health care practitioners,
CHSPH includes nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, communication sciences and disorders, public health and health administration, wellness and movement sciences, dental hygiene, and Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (
RIDE).
The Spokane campus will be the primary work location, but some work time may be spent on the Cheney campus.
The expected salary upon hire is $72,909 (Assistant Professor) and $82,637 (Associate Professor). In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. In addition,

Required Qualifications:
- Doctorate in communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology or closely related field at the time of appointment (PhD or EdD).
- ABD candidates close to degree completion will be considered. PhD/EdD completed by August 16, 2025 would result in a tenure track appointment for current academic year. Otherwise, lecturer appointment. Then if PhD/EdD completed after August 16, 2025, and before May 15, 2026, would result in tenure track position in the following year.
The candidate will be expected to teach in area of expertise. Expertise in motor speech, voice, dysphagia or child language is preferred, but other areas of expertise (e.g., phonology) will be considered.Established record, or evidence of potential of research agenda.ASHA CCC-SLP.Eligible for Washington state SLP licensure.Desire and ability to promote and support cultural competence.Readiness to work closely with students and faculty colleagues in community engagement, interprofessional activities and service-learning initiativesDemonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to diverse needs including universal access of our students, faculty staff and the public.
Additional Required Qualifications for Associate Professor:
- Doctorate in communication sciences and disorders, speech-language pathology, or closely related field at the time of appointment (PhD or EdD)
- Rank of Associate Professor at current university
- Six (6) or more years of successful professional experience are normally required. For applicants who currently hold the rank of Associate Professor a holistic review of the candidate’s materials will be considered in this decision process.

Job Duties:
A Faculty Activity Plan (FAP) will be developed by the end of the first semester of the selected candidate’s appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the demands of the department.Responsibilities will consist:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses consistent with expertise and program/departmental instructional needs
- Mentor student research
- Clinical supervision in area(s) of expertise
- Conduct scholarly activities leading to publication and potential external funding
- Provide service to the department, college, university as well as the discipline of communication sciences and disorders
Teaching also includes the following additional related responsibilities as defined in the faculty CBA:·
- Meet all scheduled classes
- Plan, organize and inform students of course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales
- Schedule and attend office hours
- Turn in grades according to established deadlines
Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.Percent of Time: 100
Conditions of Employment:
To be considered eligible for appointment into the position, applicants must be available and able to start in the position no later than August 16, 2025.
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
