Lecturer, Introductory Biology
The Department of Biology at James Madison University invites applications for a renewable term appointment faculty member beginning August 25, 2025. This is a 10-month, full-time, fully benefitted, non-tenure track position that is renewed annually, with no limit on the number of terms. Hiring will be at the Lecturer rank, which is eligible for promotion. We seek candidates who value undergraduate teaching and engaging in a collaborative teaching environment.
The Biology Department at James Madison University currently serves over 1,000 undergraduate majors and 19 master's degree students. We offer a wide variety of courses for biology majors, general education, and pre-health profession majors, including a 4-semester lab-intensive core curriculum. The Department of Biology is housed in the modern 90,000 ft2 Bioscience building, with numerous facilities to support the scholarly and educational pursuits of faculty and students.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate for this position will teach existing introductory biology majors' lecture and laboratory courses and develop future lecture and laboratory courses for non-majors in support of the university's General Education program. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the department's continuing efforts to build inclusive excellence in science education and promote the success of all students.
Qualifications:
Required: A master's degree in biology, biology education, or a related field is required at the time of appointment; an ability to teach introductory courses for biology majors and non-science majors, a demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate; experience with student-centered evidence-based teaching practices; and a commitment to inclusive excellence in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in biology, biology education, or a related field at the time of appointment; potential to develop and/or assess new curricula.
