The Police Officer identifies potential problems regarding welfare, safety and/or security of students, personnel, visitors and/or site; maintains safety on campus by enforcing disciplinary policies and regulations; communicates information and responding to inquires; and provides emergency care to students and other individuals.

Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
1.) Graduation from high school or the equivalent; and
2.) Basic P.O.S.T. Certification or the equivalent (Intermediate P.O.S.T. Certification is desirable); and
3.) Job related experience; and
4.) Valid California driver's license; and
5.) Current CPR/First Aid Certification; and
6.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes & Skills)
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: codes, regulations & laws related to the job functions; safety practices and procedures; and techniques for diffusing hostile situations.
SKILLS are required to perform single technical tasks with a frequent need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: administering first aid and CPR; handling hazardous materials; operating standard office equipment; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and utilizing pertinent software applications. Use of new or additional equipment brought about by new technology shall be incorporated consistent with the level of responsibility and complexity of this job.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use basic job related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standard methods of operation. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of different types and/or purposes; and utilize job related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues, create plans of action and reach solutions; with data it is significant; and with equipment it is limited. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with persons of varied backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; and maintaining confidentiality and working with frequent interruptions.

RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision; leading, guiding and/or coordinating other persons; and operating within a defined budget and/or financial guidelines. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organization's services.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions requires the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; significant reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling. Generally the job requires 33% sitting, 34% walking and 33% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes, some hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.), and in varying atmospheric conditions.
SALARY INFORMATION
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Salary Range: $40.70 - $44.87 per hour (Step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.
