North Shore Community College, located in Massachusetts with campuses in Danvers and Lynn, invites confidential nominations for and expressions of interest in the position of Provost. The Provost serves as the chief academic officer, reporting to the President and serving on the Cabinet, providing leadership and direction to all academic, student support, and enrollment related functions at NSCC. The successful candidate will be a politically astute unifier with an impressive record of leading, inspiring, developing, and empowering others to accomplish strategic goals and objectives. The Provost–working in close collaboration with the Assistant Provost–will assume a leadership role in strengthening the shared governance process and promoting transparency and positive relationships with the College’s union leaders and the members they represent. With a deep understanding of and commitment to the mission of comprehensive community colleges and the students they serve, the Provost welcomes the opportunity to work collaboratively with other members of the President’s Cabinet, and faculty and staff college-wide to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed and the College is responsive to the needs of the communities it serves.
In close collaboration with the Assistant Provost, the Provost is responsible for planning and delivering an inspiring student experience that propels students to successful outcomes in their lives. This includes ensuring quality instruction and co- and extra-curricular experiences, as well as an effective, seamless support structure that deliver the services necessary for students to succeed from their first encounter with North Shore Community College through graduation and transition to further education and the professional world.
Founded in 1965, North Shore Community College (NSCC) is a public, non-profit, two-year institution of higher education. Operating from campuses in Lynn and Danvers and instructional sites at other locations in the North Shore area, the College serves 26 cities and towns along the coastal region from north metropolitan Boston to Cape Ann. Since its founding, NSCC has grown from offering five academic programs to offering 75 academic programs in 13 guided pathways. Students have the flexibility of attending classes during the day, evenings, weekends and online.
In the fall 2023 semester, 4,833 credit students and 970 noncredit students attended NSCC. The population served by NSCC represents a mix of urban and suburban, a diversity of ethnic and racial groups, white- and blue-collar, middle- and low-income groups, as well as growing numbers of recent immigrants. NSCC has touched the lives of more than a quarter million residents on the North Shore in its sixty years of service. NSCC is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the Department of Education.
As a comprehensive community college, NSCC offers both general education transfer programs and career and technical education programs focused on immediate employment. The College currently offers 75 degrees and certificates, including 10 Associate in Arts, 25 Associate in Science, 7 Associate in Applied Science, 32 certificates and one clock-hour certificate. Every major and transfer guided pathway has been strategically designed to ensure students develop the knowledge and skills in a particular discipline and related general education curriculum needed to succeed in the major and the field of specialization.
In 2020, the College received a 10-year re-accreditation from the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) formerly, the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC-CIHE).
Qualifications for the Provost position include an earned doctorate with progressively responsible administrative experience in senior academic affairs administrative positions in higher education; teaching experience preferably at a community college; experience with integrating academic and student affairs divisions and employees to produce a simpler, more holistic experience for students; and demonstrated ability to motivate, inspire, unite, and promote the leadership of faculty and staff in pursuit of an innovative and creative student success agenda.
