Description
The School of Dental Medicine at Stony Brook University is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with neuroscience/neurobiology research expertise in the mechanisms, prevention, modulation, or treatment of pain/neuropathies. All candidates must have a PhD degree, postdoctoral training, and active NIH funding.

The successful applicant will contribute to the teaching of basic science courses in the dental curriculum and in the graduate program. Faculty members will also participate in service at the college, university, and national levels, as appropriate for their academic rank. Finally, the successful candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to create an environment that promotes collegiality, collaboration, and cultural diversity among members of various education, research, and service communities. A national competitive start-up package and customized laboratory facilities will be made available.

The research programs in the SDM includes gene/cell-based regenerative therapies, mechanisms of collagen degradation, oral and dental stem cell biology, biology of skin and mucosal grafting, wound repair, host modulation, salivary gland biology, inflammation, and oral microbiology. Dental-centered research areas include enamel and dentin bonding, dental materials, psychosocial aspects of health and illness, applications of cone-beam CT, dental implants, 3D printing, and applications of artificial intelligence in dental imaging (https://dentistry.stonybrookmedicine.edu/dentalresearch/resfaculty).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience at a dental school
