Position Summary:
The Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Division in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Central Michigan University (CMU) seeks to fill a full-time, 10-month tenure-track open rank faculty member position beginning August 2025. The qualified candidate will join a robust SLP program that is committed to student success. The faculty member will engage in research/scholarly activity, teaching, and service, and will provide clinical supervision within the Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education.

The CMU Department of CSD, located in The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions, contains three academic divisions (SLP, Audiology, and American Sign Language) and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, and certificates. Required Qualifications:
  1. Terminal doctorate degree in a relevant field; ABD considered if degree will be completed by the start of appointment.
  2. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech-language pathology.
  3. Michigan SLP license or eligibility.
  4. All areas of SLP expertise will be considered, although preference may be given to the following areas: speech sound disorders, speech science, social aspects of communication, cognitive aspects of communication.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Earned PhD. in speech-language pathology or relevant field.
  2. Clinical supervision experience.
  3. Experience teaching at the university level.
  4. Experience or demonstrated interest in securing extramural grants and contracts.
  5. Demonstrated research agenda based on published works and/or external funding.
  6. Evidence of involvement with professional associations and organizations.

About the Department:
The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions consists of five academic units (Department of Physical Therapy, Department of Physical Education and Sport, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the School of Health Sciences and the School of Rehabilitation and Medical Science). It offers undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs in athletic training, audiology, communication sciences and disorders, exercise science, environmental health and safety, health administration, physical activity specialist, physical education, physical therapy, physician assistant, public health, school and public health education, speech-language pathology, and sport management, delivered by 100+ faculty/staff. The Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education is the premier specialty rehabilitation center in Mid-Michigan pooling the talents of clinicians, faculty, and students at Central Michigan University. The clinic specializes in audiology, speech language pathology, physical therapy, and psychology services. The Carls Center providers deliver high quality, specialized clinical care and rehabilitation by excelling in patient care and education, community involvement, and clinical training and research. Students also have the opportunity to participate in student-run clinics that are supervised by licensed professionals. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) has a faculty/staff of 35, and an enrollment of approximately 120 graduate students and 200 undergraduate signed majors. The department’s academic and clinical programs are accredited in both speech-language pathology and audiology by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Over 5,000 clients are seen annually, including 100+ participants in the Summer Specialty Clinics program.
