Associate Vice President for Grants, Sponsored Projects, and Research

 

Millersville University of Pennsylvania (MU) welcomes applications for an Associate Vice President (AVP) for Grants, Sponsored Projects, and Research. The AVP reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The AVP will coordinate grants, sponsored projects, and research activity across the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) through Millersville University of Pennsylvania.  Within Millersville University, this individual will oversee the function and budgets for the Office and serves as managing supervisor for the unit, currently consisting of two individuals. This position, in collaboration with faculty, staff, deans, vice presidents and other administrators within Millersville University and across PASSHE, will develop and maintain effective procedures for the discovery, acquisition, and administration of grants and external contracts; preparation, authorization and submission of grant proposals and related contracts; budget preparation, implementation, and management; annual reporting and intellectual property protection; contract hiring; and ensures local compliance with university, system, state, and federal regulations and policies.

Preferred and Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in grant and contract administration.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience managing personnel with at least one year in an Office of Grants, Sponsored Projects, and Research.
  • A record of effective administrative experience in higher education or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with developing effective partnerships within a University/System/Organization and with external groups such as granting agencies and foundations, regional businesses, other educational institutions, or other organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience developing policies, procedures, and strategies to facilitate efficient and effective submission, administration, and/or funding of grant applications.
  • Knowledge of electronic research administration programs and of federal procurement regulations.
  • Experience with the successful administration of awards and their compliance with regulations (including IRB and IACUC processes).
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse university community.
  • Experience with intellectual property protection.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under the pressure of deadlines while emphasizing excellent customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills (listening skills, problem solving) in order to effectively interact with individuals within and outside the University.
  • Successful interview, campus presentation, and three successful background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing grants in a university, college, or System setting.
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
  • Experience with assessment and accreditation.
  • Membership in appropriate national associations and participation in relevant trainings, conferences, webinars, and other professional development activities.
  • Additional training or education that may include Certified Research Administrator (CRA), MBA, JD, PhD, project management certification, or similar credential.
  • Experience organizing and/or giving workshops on proposal writing, preparation, and other relevant topics.
