Position Summary:
The Department of Psychology and Communication at the University of Idaho is hiring a tenure-track assistant professor in Communication beginning August 2025. We are interested in candidates whose research focuses on topics that fall within the scope of human communication and candidates who will contribute to an inclusive, diverse, and equitable learning and working environment.
The successful Candidate is expected to teach required lower and upper division Communication courses, elective Communication courses, as well as Communication courses that fulfill general education requirements. Courses may include, but are not limited to, research methods, interpersonal communication, small group communication, persuasion, communication theory, or an upper division elective in the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to actively participate in department service and mentor students. The ideal candidate is expected to show strong potential for excellence in Social Science research and is expected to develop a research program that will inform and advance our understanding of human communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Communication / Communication Studies
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses
  • Experience teaching in both in-person and online formats



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience seeking or obtaining external funding
  • Experience with mentoring undergraduate students
  • Ability to conduct and publish independent and collaborative research
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the department and across campus
  • Experience with academic program assessment
  • Excellent communication skills
