EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR/PRINCIPAL & PLANNED GIFTS & REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Position Summary:
The Executive Director of Principal and Planned Gifts and Regional Development supervises a team of regional development directors and reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Advancement and Campaign Strategies. This position serves as the senior advisor and development officer for planned gifts that range from simple bequests to complicated transformational philanthropic investments. This position is responsible for developing and implementing a communication plan to promote planned giving opportunities and services to alumni and other prospective donors, along with managing a portfolio of donors and philanthropic partnerships that lead to significant increases in major, principal, and planned gifts. The Executive Director has the added responsibility to raise upwards of $3,000,000 annually.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Six years of experience in planned gift fundraising and legal/financial experience with charitable gift planning, including tax and inheritance law.
Experience developing and implementing a successful marketing plan for a planned giving program.
Supervisory experience.
Considerable knowledge of best practices in planned giving, including relevant rules, regulations, and programs/policies which comply with various planned giving vehicles.
Considerable knowledge and a successful record of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Extensive knowledge of and skill in using fundraising databases and planned giving software.
Ability to project a positive attitude that enables effective teambuilding and mentorship.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse constituent base.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree.
Eight years of fundraising experience.
Experience working in higher education.
Comprehensive campaign experience.
Demonstrated track record of securing six and seven figure major and/or planned gifts.
Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other development professionals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Manages a select portfolio of upward of 125 significant prospects and philanthropic partnerships with the responsibility to raise upwards of $3,000,000 annually in major, principle and planned gifts.
Works with donors (and their financial advisors) to market, negotiate, and close a wide range of outright and planned giving arrangements including, but not limited to, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder and lead trusts, retained life estates, gifts of real estate, life insurance, and bequests.
Develops and implement a communication plan to promote planned giving opportunities and services to alumni and other prospective donors, including a gift planning website, e-newsletter, social media posts, customized estate planning guide, and a wide variety of electronic and print publications.
Provides planned giving materials, proposal language, and relevant training to the Advancement team and university leaders.
Supervises assigned development and support staff, including regional development officers.
Works with assigned staff members to develop, implement, and evaluate fundraising business plans and donor strategies designed to meet/exceed fundraising goals and objectives.
Performs other duties as assigned.
