Job Description Summary
The Research Project Manager will work in the new Center for AI and Data Science for Integrated Diagnostics (AI2D) in the department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. The Project Manager will help design, organize, and execute several clinical research studies aimed at improving screening for underdiagnosed diseases and developing tools for learning health systems. This will include evaluating clinical machine learning models and model-triggered decision support. Projects will span cardiovascular disease and cancer; prospective observational and pragmatic trials; and include single-site and multi-site studies.

Job Description

The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Research Project Manager to join the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Herman in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the new Center for AI and Data Science for Integrated Diagnostics (AI2D). The Research Manager will join a team of research staff and trainees advancing clinical AI and data science research, including ongoing investigator-initiated studies and new studies that are in development or start-up phases. The Research Manager will help develop, coordinate, and execute clinical studies aimed at improving screening for underdiagnosed diseases and developing tools for a learning health system. This will include the development of clinical machine learning models and model-triggered clinical decision support that are interpretable to clinicians, transferable across healthcare practices, equitable across patient groups, and robust over time. Projects will span cardiovascular disease and cancer; prospective observational and pragmatic trials; and both single-site and multi-site studies.

Research Project Manager A: With mentoring from the investigators, the Research Project Manager A will help to develop the team's research strategy, help lead projects, and co-author papers. More specifically, they will contribute to and manage the development of study protocols, writing grants, managing project operations, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, building collaborations, and writing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

Research Project Manager B: Together with the investigators, the Research Project Manager B will co-develop the team's research strategy, co-lead projects, and co-author papers. More specifically, they will take a leadership role in developing study protocols, writing grants, managing project operations, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, building collaborations, and writing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals.

Qualifications

  • Research Project Manager A:
    • Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of work experience in clinical research, epidemiology, informatics, data analysis, or clinical practice or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Research Project Manager B:
    • Master's Degree and 3+ years of work experience in clinical research, epidemiology, informatics, data analysis, or clinical practice or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Practical experience designing and coordinating day-to-day project activities required
  • Effective problem solving abilities and sound judgement required
  • Effective communication and writing skills required
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently required
  • Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations preferred
  • Experience with management of multi-site projects preferred
  • Experience with Redcap or other tools for organizing study data preferred
  • Experience with processing of blood specimens and/or phlebotomy a plus
  • A strong passion for empirical research and predictive medicine a plus

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
