THIS POSITION IS PARTIALLY GRANT FUNDED


The Center for Neighborhood Revitalization and Research is seeking a mid-career level Health Scientist to support current research and to expand the Center's research portfolio in the health discipline.  The Health Scientist is a full-time position located in the Center for Neighborhood Revitalization and Research.  The Health Scientist is the lead scientist for the CNRR, providing statistical and research methodology expertise to health-related research projects across all academic and research units.  Biomedical research and biostatisticians and bioinformatics are prioritized.  The Health Scientists assists with grant proposals and submissions and provides research mentoring to junior faculty.

Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Provide statistical and research methodology expertise to health-related research projects across DSU departments with an emphasis on biomedical research, biostatistics, and bioinformatics.
2. Mentor junior faculty involved in biomedical and health-related research.
3. Identify, develop, and submit biomedical and health related research proposals.
4. Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with ACCEL investigators across partner institutions.
5. Disseminate research findings through publications in peer-review and other professional journals and presentations at professional conferences and other venues.
 
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities:
1. Expertise in health-related statistical analyses and methodology with a preference for biomedical research, biostatistics, and bioinformatics.
2. Expertise in race health disparities and in social determinants of health.
3. Strong writing and presentation skills.
4. Management skills.
 
Qualification Standards
1. Education:  A doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D. or Dr.P.H.) in a relevant field is required.  Ph.D. In Biostatistics or Bioinformatics preferred. 
2. Record of progressive successful health related and/or biomedical research grant awards.
3. Record of publications demonstrating health and biomedical research expertise and statistical skills.
4. Record of mentoring faculty, post docs, undergraduate and graduate students or the equivalent.
5. Administrative leadership is preferred.
