EWU) Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track
Assistant Professor position in Immunology to begin September 2025.The Department of Biology includes a diverse faculty and over 350 undergraduate majors and Masters-level graduate students focusing on evolutionary, ecological, molecular, physiological, microbial, and health sciences. Faculty members collaborate with the local medical community, resource management agencies, industry, and private businesses to provide educational and research opportunities for our students. The Science Building, home to the biology department, is currently undergoing a full renovation, and upon completion will be equipped with modern research and office spaces with resources including vivarium, tissue culture suite, scanning electron microscope, and fluorescence activated cell sorter.
Eastern is a regional, comprehensive university. The main campus is located in Cheney, 20 miles SW of Spokane, Washington’s second-largest city. A branch campus is located in Spokane, and other teaching/learning centers are located throughout the state. The expected salary upon hire for an Assistant Professor of Biology (Immunology) is $77,879. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. In addition,

Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Immunology or closely related area. ABD candidates will be considered but must complete their doctoral degree before September 1, 2025.
- Must be committed to quality teaching of a diverse student population and actively enhancing opportunities for traditionally underrepresented student populations.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of one-year postdoctoral experience;
- Teaching experience in relevant subject areas;
- Experience in teaching medical, dental, and/or health professional students;
- Demonstrated ability to garner external grant funds;
- Research interest in vertebrate models such as rodents or fish;
- Experience in supervising undergraduate student research projects;
- Use of bioinformatics approaches to data analysis.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Teach immunology and cell biology, develop other upper-division courses (including a Capstone course) in their area of expertise and contribute to introductory courses for our majors and non-majors
- Develop and sustain an active research program in immunology
- Submit proposals for external funding to support scholarly activities
- Supervises undergraduate research
- Advise undergraduate students
- Contribute to the master’s level graduate program
- Professionally engage with the local community
- Engage in effective teaching and assessment of learning outcomes
- The successful candidate should be open to the possibility of teaching in the WWAMI/RIDE programs in collaboration with the University of Washington
- KSA’s are related to requirements of a successful faculty member.

Conditions of Employment:
- This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
- All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
