PURPOSE:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, the Director for Care and Basic Needs manages the operations of the Care Team and Basic Needs by developing, managing, implementing and coordinating the campus' response to students experiencing varying degrees of distress and address food and housing insecurity. Collaborates with institutional constituents providing comprehensive case management oversight for all cases brought forward to the CSUMB Care Team. The Director for Care & Basic Needs leads, refers, and coaches students in making use of University and/or community services. The incumbent coordinates and tracks Care Team recommendations for referred students to ensure continuity of care, and provides outreach, consultation, and education to parents, families, or designated emergency contacts as appropriate. Leads various food and housing security programs and services including the campus food pantry, basic needs emergency grant, CalFresh Food outreach, and operational staff and volunteers. In addition, the incumbent works to secure outside funding via grants and community partnerships that benefit CSUMB students and the community at large.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and laws affecting students, such as The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); modern management and administrative techniques related to the development and implementation of appropriate methods of work planning, scheduling and coordination in a team environment to meet changing student and organizational objectives. Thorough understanding of the interconnectedness and subsequent need for coordinated action within the total Student Affairs area. Basic knowledge of student and faculty perspectives, as they pertain to the academic or classroom setting.
Skills in: mediation and alternative dispute resolution methods to resolve highly charged matters that arise; research, interview and observation techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology or a closely related field AND five (5) years of professional level student services work experience OR a Master's degree in a directly related field AND two (2) years of professional level student services work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in interpreting laws and regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Student Affairs/Higher Education or related field. Experience or certification in prejudice reduction, diversity, conflict resolution, and/or other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Technical fluency with Banner, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Maxient, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google mail calendaring programs. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to CSUMB's Vision.
Demonstrated ability to: follow procedural due process, balance the rights of students and maintain the dignity of often highly assertive individuals; use a high degree of independent judgment, persuasiveness, imagination, tact and confidentiality; determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to use while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature; make constructive recommendations for modifications or improvements of procedures or programs. Significant experience developing and conducting workshops or other training activities.
Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google mail and calendaring programs.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
