Job Description

I. JOB SUMMARY:

The Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing seeks a dynamic individual to serve as the Graduate Clinical Liaison. This candidate oversees the clinical placement of nursing students enrolled in D’Youville’s graduate nursing programs. The incumbent maintains relationships with health care providers and assists in the scheduling of student experiences to support the clinical components of the programs. The Clinical Liaison reports to the Dean for the School of Nursing.

II. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

• Keep regular communications regarding clinical opportunities for nursing students with nurse educators, office managers, and/or placement coordinators in hospitals, clinics, and other health care systems

• Maintenance of student compliance with site pre-placement requirements (Castlebranch)

• Upkeep of current clinical contracts between D’Youville and the partnering institution, facilitating revisions and renewals as necessary

• Coordinates with Program Directors and Course Coordinators to determine the number and types of placements needed for students each semester

• Communicate confirmed or changed clinical placement information to students and clinical coordinators for nursing coursework each semester and at defined intervals throughout each term/semester

• Communicate changes in agency and/or regulatory requirements to faculty that impact on clinical experiences

• Preserve updated clinical site/preceptor databases and files as required by state and national accrediting agencies

• Share course syllabi, clinical experience objectives, and preceptor guidelines to community partners as contracts are confirmed

• Attend clinical affiliation meetings, community professional meetings, and other meetings when they occur as appropriate

• Maintain a current list of the approved clinical preceptors by clinical specialty

III. OTHER JOB DUTIES:

• Maintain various databases for annual reports for the New York State Education Department, American Academy of Colleges of Nursing and other organizations as necessary

• Hold regular meetings with course coordinators and faculty to communicate current placement needs and issues

• Monitor and maintain information on types of agencies and health care providers providing clinical experiences

• Distribute clinical agency evaluation instruments as directed by the School of Nursing Systematic Evaluation Plan

• Propose policies or procedures to facilitate placement of students for clinical experiences

• Provide informational sessions to faculty to update them on clinical facility rules and regulations.

• Send acknowledgment certificates to all community providers upon completion of precepted hours

• Complete required documentation for preceptor verification of hours

• Maintain an awareness of opportunities for clinical experiences in the community

• Other job duties as assigned

IV. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

• Computer literacy (word processing, mail merges, spreadsheets, and database management)

• Ability to utilize various software programs (Excel, site management software, etc.)

• Strong organization skills and detail orientation

V. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred

License/Certification:

N/A

Experience:

• Experience with credentialing required

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, document formatting, and mail mergers required

• Experience with Accreditation Standards associated with Nursing Education as outline by the

Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the New York State Education Department

preferred

VI. PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Mental/Visual demand and physical effort

• For normal office environment must be able to lift 25 lbs from floor level

• Must be able to lift and manuever normal size full file box for archival purposes

• Must be able to occasional bend, twist, and stoop

• Frequent typing of computer keyboard
