Position Summary:

Leads major staff training initiatives and programs including customer service, leadership development, human resources topics and processes, and performance management processes. Conducts open workshops, provides customized training support to campus departments to meet identified needs by request. Responsible for development of online training programs or selection of vendor provided training opportunities that meet CMU needs.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in organizational development, business, psychology or related field.
Two years experience in human resources or related field, preferably with a background in training, facilitation, or organizational development.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including experience with group presentations.
Demonstrated computer experience including word processing, spreadsheet applications, and ability to learn new programs.
Ability to work independently on complex assignments.
Ability to meet deadlines and work with schedules.
Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree.
Experience working in a higher education environment.
Experience with instructional design and course development.
Experience with and proficiency in developing and implementing online learning experiences, both synchronous virtual training and asynchronous offerings.
Experience working a SAP/HR environment.
Experience with web page development.
Database experience.
Knowledge of public relations and/or marketing techniques.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Primarily responsible for staff training and development at CMU, including major university wide initiatives (e.g., Leadership, Service, and Supervision) and HR training topics (staff orientation, supervisor training topics such as leave of absence management, performance management, effective communication, and staff hiring).
Conceptualizes, develops, promotes and presents effective organizational development, career and training programs for staff.
Coordinates and Promotes the University’s performance review program; assists supervisors and employees with performance management process questions; provides specific training in the use of the on-line performance review system and in the skills of the performance review conversation.
Develops training in online format or selects/manages vendor provided training opportunities that meet CMU needs and provide on demand/24:7 access for staff on and off campus.
Networks with Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support (CIS), Leadership Institute, Department of Counseling, Educational Leadership and
Higher Education and other related departments for possible coordination and delivery of training opportunities. This includes researching, identifying, and recruiting program presenters and subject matter experts.
Consults with departments and individuals to identify training/development issues; and develop specific programs to meet those needs. This can include individual coaching and working with teams struggling with working effectively with one another.
Determines the most appropriate method of program delivery, e.g. online, live classroom, interactive, lecture, etc.
Develops and maintains external contacts with the coordinators of training programs in other schools, in the private sector, and with consultants/speakers.
Conducts train-the-trainer programs to assist with the development of other trainers on occasion.
Reviews and monitors transfer of learning through tracking of impact of training through well-established models of training evaluation
Accumulates and analyzes feedback from participants, supervisors, administrators, and speakers.
Develops, prepares and presents periodic and special reports on training activities, the performance review system, the Leadership Standards Initiative program, and related activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
