Job Description Summary:
The College of Health and Community Well-Being at the University of La Verne is seeking a Principal Faculty for its developing Masters in Physician Assistant Practice Program.

Principal faculty are responsible for the development and implementation of courses for the pre-clinical portion of the PA program. They are expected to collaborate in the development of curriculum, assessment, and advising. In addition to the principal faculty responsibilities, the principal faculty will recruit, develop and retain qualified instructional faculty. They also participate in accreditation process.

The College of Health and Community Well-Being seeks someone with at least a Master's degree from an accredited university and preferably a Doctoral degree. The ideal candidate should have 1 year of experience in Physician Assistant education and ability to travel. Committee work is required, as well as maintaining a record of scholarship and professional activities to assure program and university diversity.

Principal faculty members report to the Director of the PA program. This position is integral to the development of the Physician Assistant Program and its accreditation. This is a full-time professor of practice position. This position can be NTT or tenure track.

Specific Duties:
Assist with the development, preparation and implementation of the program.
Deliver the academic pre-clinical portion of the PA curriculum, and teach in areas of expertise; participate in admissions activities and provide advising and academic counseling of students.
Help develop and teach courses in both the academic and clinical years of the program and participate in all aspects of the program including accreditation activities.
Collaborate with the program director and other faculty members to design and update the curriculum to meet accreditation standards and industry best practices.
Develop course materials, syllabi, and educational resources to support student learning.Deliver engaging and effective lectures, seminars, and laboratory sessions (OSCE’s etc.) to students, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of PA practice and Medical Sciences.Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment that encourages active student participation and critical thinking.Utilize various teaching methods, including case-based learning, simulation, and technology-enhanced instruction.Oversee and participate in clinical experiences, ensuring that students gain valuable practical skills and knowledge in diverse healthcare settings.Provide guidance and mentorship to students during clinical rotations promoting professional growth and ethical behaviors. (Clinical faculty)Develop, administer, and evaluate assessments to measure student progress and achievement of learning objectives.Provide timely feedback and support to students to enhance their academic performance and clinical skills.Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations, to contribute to the advancement of the field of physician assistant education and the profession (eg., PA Board, PAEA, CAPA, AAPA)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of teaching experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Physician Assistant education.
  • Ongoing research agenda.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Masters degree in related field.
  • Excellent oral, written and computer skills.
  • Current unrestricted licensure (or eligibility, if applicable) to practice in the State of California.
  • Ability to network and interact professionally with students, faculty, staff and clinical partners and preceptors.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education, healthcare and community engagement.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree (PhD, DHSc, DMSc, EdD) in a related field
  • Knowledge of curriculum and course development
  • PA-C
  • Involvement in professional organizations related to the physician assistant profession and PA education.
  • Knowledge of ARC-PA standards
  • Commitment to community service and diversity
