Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The overall purpose of this position is to assist with daily operations of the lab school, which includes assisting the Program Director, additional staff, and families; as well as providing support for the faculty of the Child Studies and Education program, as time allows. This position receives direction from the Program Director, Child Studies and Education, and the Assistant Facility Director, Child Development Center; and exercises no supervision.  NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
 

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:           High school diploma or GED.
Experience:         More than one year of professional experience in a clerical environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education:           Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:         Professional or secretarial experience in an education, church, or social work setting.

Knowledge of: 1. English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 2. Office methods and practices, including filing systems, record maintenance, and letter and report writing. 3. Principles and procedures of basic record keeping. 4. Modern and complex office equipment, including copiers, scanners, and computers. 5. Commonly used computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Skills in: 6. Provide excellent customer service. 7. Proofreading and editing documents. Ability to: 8. Communicate successfully in oral and written format. 9. Use a keyboard at speed necessary for successful job performance. 8. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. 10. Learn and utilize new technologies. 11. Provide a variety of general clerical work. 12. Operate a multi-line phone system/computerized switchboard. 13. Take messages accurately from a variety of sources such as telephone, e-mail, and voice mail and communicate information in an accurate and concise manner. 14. Perform a variety of duties under time constraints. 15. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 16. Handle confidential, sensitive, and sometimes troubling situations with upmost integrity and understanding.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Desk work; occasional field trips e.g. for college or program activities.  Insignificant effort other than normal movement.  Minimal Hazard/Exposure:  Standard office setting.  At least minimal environment controls to assure health and comfort.
