The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for four visiting instructor or lecturer positions in the Games and Interactive Media program. These are nine-month, non-tenure-track appointments, annually renewable for up to four academic years (maximum) that include teaching and service-based duties. The anticipated start date is December 23, 2020.
Each successful candidate will contribute to the mission of Games and Interactive Media through teaching courses in foundations, web, and/or games. Appropriate specializations may include game development, web design, social media, mobile and responsive design, virtual/augmented/mixed reality, and technical art. Teaching responsibilities will also support the Digital Media B.A. (with specializations in Web and Social Platforms and Game Design).
While UCF has adapted its instructional delivery of courses to various modes due to COVID-19, these positions are among those based at UCF Downtown, which opened in 2019. Located in Downtown Orlando, the new campus is home to 7,700 UCF and Valencia College students studying degree programs that align with emerging industries, within walking distance of jobs and internships. By the time of appointment, applicants must hold a master's degree (for an instructor) or a terminal degree (for a lecturer) in an appropriate discipline from an accredited institution. Candidates must also possess teaching experience or demonstrated evidence of teaching-related activities, such as workshops, training, or scholarship of teaching and learning.
Preference will be given to candidates who are either (1) proficient in modern scripting languages for development on one or more platforms such as full-stack web, mobile, or games, or (2) have experience and skills related to art development for real-time interactive media development relating to 2D, 3D motion- graphics and animation. The preferred candidate demonstrates evidence of teaching skills online and/or in large classes in their teaching statement submitted with their application.
