Job Description Summary
The Research Specialist will contribute to a research program dedicated to identifying drug repurposing candidates for STXBP1 and SynGAP1 haploinsufficiency. Under limited supervision, they will execute a range of molecular, cellular, and whole animal approaches to facilitate drug repurposing studies in primary neurons and in mice.

Job Description

Research Specialist C duties:

  • Perform primary neuron (cortical, hippocampal) isolation and ex vivo culture from mouse brains.
  • Perform compound dosing of primary neurons and mice.
  • Maintain and manage Stxbp1 and SynGAP1 mouse colonies.
  • Genotype genetically modified mouse models.
  • Harvest tissues from mammalian sources.
  • Assay transcript and protein content from mammalian tissues
  • Prepare solutions, reagents, and media as needed.
  • Order and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment related to repurposing studies.


Research Specialist D duties:

All duties listed above, plus:

  • Work independently and with team members to manage research projects, data collection and analysis.
  • Oversee aspects of lab organization for neuroscience projects.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Write and amend animal protocols.



Qualifications:

Research Specialist C: Bachelor's degree in (molecular) biology, neuroscience, chemistry, or related field and 3-5 years lab experience required. Master's degree preferred. Experience with mouse models and molecular biology techniques (RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, immunoblotting) required. Primary neuron isolation experience preferred. Must have strong organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, and must be a motivated and reliable team player.

Research Specialist D: Master's degree in (molecular) biology, neuroscience, chemistry, or related field and 3-5 years lab experience required. Ph.D preferred. Experience with mouse models and molecular biology techniques (RNA extraction, RT-qPCR, immunoblotting) required. Experience with primary neuron isolation, calcium imaging and/or multielectrode arrays preferred but not required. Must have strong organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills, and must be a motivated and reliable team player.

This position is contingent upon funding.
