Job Summary: Assists the New Student Orientation Coordinator and the Orientation & Student Success department with their efforts to increase the access and success of new Salt Lake Community College students.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Participate as a team member of the Orientation & Student Success (OSS) Office by:
A. Presenting information about SLCC to large and small groups of students during OSS events, specifically Pathway Orientations
B. Informing new students and their families of campus resources and services
C. Leading tours of multiple SLCC campuses for new students, families, and other guests as part of Orientations
D. Answering questions and directing new students in person, via email, and over the phone
E. Assembling campus information packets, and new student orientation materials
F. Participating in event planning and execution
G. Assisting other Student Affairs departments such as Admissions, Advising, International Student Services, and with special events and outreach activities
H. Participate in other institutional activities and duties as assignedOrientation Leaders must:
A. Motivate and excite new students
B. Create a welcoming environment for new students and their families
C. Articulate the purpose of SLCC’s general education classes and teach new students how to register for these classes
D. Feel comfortable using the SLCC catalog and DegreeWorks platforms
E. Be punctual and dependable
F. Participate in ongoing professional development sessions

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued: Orientation Leaders must: A. Motivate and excite new students B. Create a welcoming environment for new students and their families C. Articulate the purpose of SLCC’s general education classes and teach new students how to register for these classes D. Feel comfortable using the SLCC catalog and DegreeWorks platforms E. Be punctual and dependable F. Participate in ongoing professional development sessions

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a current SLCC undergraduate or School Applied Technology & Technical Specialists Program (SATTS) SLCC student with a minimum 2.5 GPA who is maintaining at least 6 credit hours per semester.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will go to candidates who are: A. Bilingual or multilingual B. Demonstrate strong public speaking skills C. Professional in manner and appearance

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Candidate should possess the ability to: A. Communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with a wide range of diverse individuals B. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills, cultural competencies, and sensibilities C. Present in front of large audiences as well as provide one-on-one consultations D. Work collaboratively with other office staff, a variety of campus departments and community personnel E. Organize, process and apply large amounts of information accurately F. Learn the requirements of SLCC departments, majors, schools, programs and degree options, as well as SLCC resources and procedures (e.g., application, registration, catalog, schedule) G. Work well under pressure and function independently with integrity under minimal supervision H. Work a flexible schedule which may include mornings, evenings, and weekends I. Utilize basic computer operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and SLCC’s student information system (i.e., Banner) J. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Special Instructions: Must be a current SLCC undergraduate or School Applied Technology & Technical Specialists Program (SATTS) SLCC   student with a minimum 2.5 GPA who is maintaining at least 6 credit hours per semester.Part-time, approximately 20 hours/week Schedule is negotiable, but mornings are preferred  Please indicate on your resume if your work experience is part time or full time.
