Job Description

The primary purpose of this position is to direct and coordinate all activities of the Small Business Development Sub-Center at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). This position reports to the College of Business (COB) Dean and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Regional Office.

This position is funded by grant or restricted funded. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Directs and provides overall management of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in the PVAMU College of Business (COB) in accordance with the established guidelines. Provide business advising and training to small businesses and entrepreneurs in Waller and Grimes counties. Supervises one program associate on a day to day basis.
  • Conducts client advising sessions and performs financial, operational and administrative analyses, prepares recommendations that result in positive economic impact. Assistance includes but is not limited to analyzing the specific business and industry data in finance, marketing, management and operations; human resources and related issues; supporting the development of business plans and financial packages, calculating and interpreting historical and projected financial ratios, preparing pro forma cash flow and financial statements; troubleshooting to identify problems and areas for improvement. May include providing guidance on expansion such as foreign markets, and technology commercialization.
  • Develops and facilitates training workshops for area entrepreneurs and businesses; Responsible for meeting and/or exceeding annual assigned performance metrics; Participates in the development and implementation of the strategic planning process for the SBDC, COB, and the SBDC Region Office.
  • Responsible for budget development and management, technical and performance reporting as required by the University, internal audit, and the University of Houston Texas Gulf Coast SBDC Network (UH TGCN). Manage client records via specified client tracking system.
  • Initiates, builds, and maintains relationships with key stakeholders to include the Small Business Administration (SBA) and its resource partners, Chambers of Commerce, economic development organizations, and lenders. Coordinates as appropriate with faculty to engage students on targeted SBDC client projects.



Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Ten years of related experience.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA)
  • Ten years of related experience in business consulting /advising or direct entrepreneurial experience in launching and operating a small business.
  • Business development experience required.
  • Knowledge must include marketing, financing/capital formation, human resources, budgeting and accounting, strategic planning, and other operational areas necessary to assist clients in starting a business and/or manage a growing business.
