SUMMARY

 



The College is interested in seeking a pool of candidates to teach Mathematics courses from pre-algebra to differential equations including corequisite courses, statistics and math for liberal arts majors. Candidates should expect to teach a diverse student population. The college seeks candidates to teach at our downtown Grand Rapids campus, at various regional sites which may include the Lakeshore campus and local high schools. In addition, there are online teaching opportunities for local candidates. A criminal background check will be conducted on all finalists prior to employment with Grand Rapids Community College. Applicants hired to teach for GRCC must establish a Michigan address prior to the start of employment.

 



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

 

  • Maintain accurate course records and submit related reports as requested.

     

  • Effectively assess student performance.

     

  • Create a safe and inclusive learning environment for students.

     

  • Utilize multiple strategies to facilitate learning, i.e. small group work, workshops, etc.

     

  • Incorporate new technologies and methods that enhance teaching and learning into his/her instructional methods.

     

  • Support the Department and College through other work normally expected of adjunct faculty members.

     



JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 



Education Credentials

 

 

  • Master's Degree in Mathematics or closely related field (e.g. Statistics, Math Ed, Physics, or Engineering) with at least 18 credits of graduate-level mathematics related coursework required.

     

  • Community college experience preferred.

     

  • Successful teaching experience in the discipline preferred.

     

  • Teaching online sections requires GRCC distance learning certification.

     



Work Experience

 

 

  • Successful teaching experience preferred but not required.

     

  • Successful teaching experience at a Community College preferred but not required.

     

  • Experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds and with varying academic skills.

     

  • Participation in professional development and/or continuous improvement activities in order to remain current in the field.

     



Equipment Use/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 

 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

     

  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving abilities.

     

  • Ability to perform routine and unexpected duties with minimum supervision.

  • An interest in working with diverse student populations, who represent a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin and ability.

  • May require teaching college-level material to high school students as part of a middle college or dual enrollment program.
