Job Description

Job Summary

The president is the chief executive officer of the campus and reports directly to the Dallas College chancellor. The president is responsible for business and community engagement, advancement, campus culture and the student experience. The president is a champion for removing barriers to success through student-focused actions and support of expanded comprehensive services to students. The president works closely with other Dallas College leaders, including the executive vice chancellor, provost, vice chancellors and the other campus presidents.

The president is responsible for leading both campus and collegewide initiatives that contribute to the vibrancy, growth and economic stability of Dallas County for future generations, with primary emphases in areas of:

  • Business and community outreach to extend partnerships, expand resources and share capacity to advance and build Dallas College's career-connected learner network in support of current and future students
  • Campus culture, including the student experience and the employee experience
  • Diversity, equity and inclusion, working to ensure equitable outcomes for minority, low-income and other underserved students

Essential Requirements

  • An expertise in understanding challenges of a community, developing solutions for employers, problem-solving and starting innovative programs or initiatives
  • An entrepreneurial spirit in the development of partnerships — with and without funding — to expand the capacity of serving the population of Dallas County and beyond
  • An ability to engage and work collaboratively with business, education and community leaders to develop and strengthen relationships and partnerships that leverage the talents, resources and facilities to meet the needs of students and other stakeholders
  • A well-developed sense of the student population to be served and industry/community problems Dallas College can help address, based on consideration of broad input from both internal and external stakeholders
  • An interest in, and a successful record of, strategic risk-taking, requiring the identification and elimination of barriers to the delivery of the required result
  • An ability to promote and support a campus culture that is responsive and nimble, innovative and effective, and results-oriented
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse internal and external stakeholders and constituents within the Dallas College network in ways that inspire trust and action

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that Dallas College achieves high and measurably improving levels of student success in the areas of learning, completion, four-year transfer, post-graduation success in the labor market, elimination of barriers to success and closing gaps based on race and income
  • Building strong alliances among business and community leaders to articulate challenges, engage in problem-solving and leverage available resources to support solutions
  • Pursuing supportive resources — individual, programmatic, agency-based, public and private channels — to fund new and emerging program initiatives
  • Participating in a wide array of collaborative discussions and efforts with the chancellor, other college leaders and K-12 leaders to further the progress of Dallas College in achieving its goals
  • Inspiring a values-based campus culture that clearly aligns with and advances the Dallas College mission, values and strategic priorities
  • Inspiring and facilitating engagement, accountability, professionalism and continuous learning by all employees in a shared commitment to serving all students in an exceptional manner
  • Engaging in succession planning efforts by facilitating the development of leadership skills within current employees
  • Developing collaborative leadership strategies to promote the value of diversity, equity and inclusion at all levels of the organization in the areas of selection, training, coaching, development and evaluation of Dallas College employees
  • Modeling effective communication that promotes transparency, professionalism and respect
  • Making decisions that are data-informed and strategically sound for both short- and long-term initiatives
  • Modeling a collaborative, noncompetitive leadership approach beginning with the needs of students, employers and the community, understanding that Dallas College students may be simultaneously learning on multiple campuses



Preferred and Required Qualifications

Position Qualifications


  • Earned master's degree
  • Five years of management experience, including three years of upper-level administrative experience in a community college/higher education environment or in a business environment that is related to or compatible with a career-connected learner network approach to the delivery of educational services to meet the needs of students, employers and the community
  • Demonstrated experience in oral and written communications confirming the ability to effectively research ideas, organize thoughts and persuade diverse internal and external audiences


  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Administrative experience in a comprehensive community college system
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or student services in an academic environment
