Assistant Professor of Biology, Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the School of Arts, Sciences, and Education (SASE) at D’Youville University invites qualified applications for an Assistant Professor of Biology with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. We seek a candidate committed to enhancing and supporting diversity on campus while having a strong passion for teaching, both in the classroom and laboratory, in a liberal arts setting. The candidate shall possess an aptitude for teaching to all levels of students with a priority to promote equity in education. While we primarily teach on ground, the ideal candidate will have some online teaching experience or be open to the idea of teaching online should the need arise. We welcome all degrees associated with the biological sciences. The candidate will be expected to teach courses in biology disciplines such as general biology, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, and/or cell biology.

 

The Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics offers bachelor’s degrees in biology, biochemistry, and chemistry, several unique minors, and a master’s degree in anatomy. Members of the department also serve numerous health science degree programs in conjunction with the School of Health Professions.

 

POSITION EXPECTATIONS

Applicants are expected to teach full-time courses required by a diverse student population and multiple degree programs. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, student-centric and service-minded, with the ability to work collaboratively in teams, with a record of excellence and creativity in teaching. Regular activities include teaching and related course preparation, holding office hours, serving on departmental and university committees, and engagement in community service opportunities. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain scholarly activity, with the potential to involve undergraduate or graduate students in their work.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Terminal degree (Ph.D.) in a discipline among the biological sciences is required.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

We encourage applicants to have a strong teaching record, which includes teaching introductory courses and upper-level courses in their area of expertise. An ambition for an innovative pedagogical approach to student engagement and success is greatly desired. A passion for working with diverse populations and to remove the barriers to equity at the classroom level is highly encouraged.
