BASIC FUNCTION:

 

The Umanath Memory and Aging Lab in the Department of Psychological Science is hiring a full-time lab manager with benefits. The lab manager will support ongoing research in the lab, from data collection and management to coordinating undergraduate research assistants. More specifically, the lab manager will be responsible for organizing and overseeing the research outlined by Professor Umanath’s National Science Foundation CAREER grant, with a particular focus on the aspects of the project related to older adults and coordinating undergraduate research assistants. This position is grant funded and based upon the availability of funds. Under normal circumstances, this position requires reporting to the lab on regular basis.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Reporting to Dr. Sharda Umanath, this lab manager performs or works independently/collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in daily operation of the research lab. Note that regular attendance and timeliness is an essential function of this position. (60%)

    • Facilitate lab management, including maintenance and ordering of supplies

    • Recruit participants, schedule testing sessions, and maintain participant database

    • Hold testing and recruitment sessions on and off-site

    • Coordinate and manage Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols

    • Administer basic psychological assessment protocols

    • Maintain and update the lab website 

  • Work with Dr. Umanath in scheduling and coordinating undergraduate research assistants (35%)

    • Assist in training and supervision of student research assistants

    • Collect, score, code, and analyze data

    • Compile and assist with the preparation of documents (e.g., posters, presentations)

  • Conduct literature searches and provide manuscript support (such as compiling references)

  • Perform additional duties as assigned (5%)

 

Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in psychology or related field is desired or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate will have at least 2 years of related experience in psychology or a related field. Previous work conducting research with human populations and/or experience effectively managing student research assistants is desired.

 

LICENSE:

A valid driver’s license and the ability to be insured under the College’s authorized driver’s policy is required.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Individual must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge skills and abilities.

 

Demonstrate effective, accurate, and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, phone, and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate, and inspire a highly diverse group of student employees.

Follow all written and verbal instructions, asking questions as needed for clarification of projects/tasks/duties/assignments.

 

Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics in support of the research project’s annual goals.

 

Use exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail.

Deploy professional skills in research and office/lab management, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College’s strategic interests.

  • Ability to operate PC and MAC computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with associated professional software, such as E-prime, Gorilla, or other experimental software. Proficiency with SPSS and R is also preferred.

  • Experience with APA style is preferred.

 

REQUIRED HOURS: This position will work 40 hours per week between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may occasionally be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College. This is a 12-month year-round position.

 

PAY RATE:

 

$22.00 PER HOUR

 

CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a regular, full-time benefits- eligible position. This position is classified as an hourly non-exempt

 

This position is for up to three years (renewed annually) and is contingent upon the availability of grant funds.
