The University of Massachusetts Amherst is located in the scenic Pioneer Valley of western Mass.  The area is home to the Five Colleges (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith college and the University of Mass Amherst),  with many opportunities for inter-institutional collaboration.

The region boasts a rural setting with easy access to Boston, Hartford and New York City.  The Department of Health Promotion and Policy is made up of two program:  Health Policy and Management, and Community Health Education. The department is in the School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS), which also houses deparments of Enviromental Health Sciences, Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Nutrition, Kinesiology and Communication Disorders... There are many opportunities for collaboration across a broad group of partners on and off campus, including a number of community-based partners in Western Mass; Bay state Medical Center in Springfield, MA; the Umass Medical School in Worcester, MA; the VA Medical Center in Northampton, MA and the local government..
