Position Summary: Illinois State University seeks a collaborative leader committed to the mission, vision, and values outlined in the University’s strategic plan to serve as Associate Vice President (AVP) for Research and Graduate Studies (AVP). The AVP reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and is responsible for providing leadership, planning and policy direction of the Research Office (including Intellectual Property, IRB, and IACUC), the Graduate School, Center for Science, Mathematics and Technology (CeMaST), and other interdisciplinary centers. The AVP will also provide leadership to the research enterprise (pre-award, proposal submission and acceptance, research ethics and compliance, Office of Student Research) and to the University's innovation and economic development efforts (startup incubator, ISU Hub of the Illinois Innovation Network). The AVP will support Graduate School leadership to move graduate education in a direction congruent with the recently developed Graduate School Strategic Plan and champion the growth, development, quality, and continuation of graduate programs and graduate education. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of externally funded research, scholarship and/or creative activity, strong organizational and management skills, demonstrated skill in forming and strengthening collaborative relationships, experience and interest in securing financial resources from a variety of public and private sources and a specific understanding of the role of philanthropic giving in supporting a leading research institution, a record of achieving goals and of leveraging diverse resources to achieve innovative results.
