Director of Academic Success and Bar Passage (Assistant/Associate Professor of Lawyering Skills) PENN STATE UNIVERSITY'S DICKINSON LAW invites applications for a Director of Academic Success and Bar Passage at the rank of Assistant /Associate Professor of Lawyering Skills, a 48-week, tenure-track position expected to begin July 1, 2020. The Director of Academic Success and Bar Passage will work as part of the Office of Academic and Student Services to train law students for the rigor of law school, the bar exam, and the practice of law. The Director will report to the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Services and work closely with all faculty and staff to enhance the learning and study skills of all students, with an emphasis on at-risk students. The Director will develop and present academic success and bar exam preparation workshops; teach and support substantive bar-preparation courses and/or courses that provide academic and law-specific skill development; and provide individual counseling throughout law school and preparation for the bar exam. The Director is expected to engage in the following administrative and faculty duties: Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Services in developing and administering an academic success and bar exam preparation program. This includes organizing and presenting specialized materials, workshops, and programs for students and faculty, including summer bar success programming and orientation workshops; Teach substantive bar-preparation courses and support courses that provide academic and law-specific skill development; Attend and present at appropriate conferences, workshops, and seminars in the field of academic success and bar exam preparation, as well as legal education and pedagogy; Research and keep abreast of the latest developments in academic success pedagogy, learning theories, technologies, and scholarly literature; Publish scholarship appropriate for faculty in the academic success and bar exam preparation field; Meet individually with students to identify areas in need of improvement and to develop plans based on each student's specific needs and abilities. Provide in-depth feedback and instruction on areas such as analytical writing skills, time management, and other skills that assist law students in achieving a high level of academic performance; Collect, analyze, and interpret both hard and narrative data relating to students' pre-law school academic background, law school performance, and bar passage. Participate in relevant ABA and other reporting requirements; Support and counsel graduates re-taking the bar exam to develop effective strategies to ensure success; Serve as the liaison to and manage the relationships with all commercial bar preparation companies; Track and report information regarding bar passage and serve on faculty committees as assigned by the Dean and/or Associate Dean; Provide service to the law school and the University; and Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean and/or Associate Dean.
